I started the Whole30 three days ago and I’m not sure I will do the whole 30 days. It’s not because I don’t think I can make it that long. I have done the Whole30 for the full month a few times previously. In fact, the first time I did the Whole30 I was six weeks in when I fell off while trying to eat a meal at a restaurant when out of town during a family emergency. So it’s not that I don’t think I can go thirty days. It’s just that after the holidays I need to get bad habits in check. I was on vacation for eleven days and enjoying myself. I baked my paleo chocolate cookies. I enjoyed some alcohol, even putting an occasional nip in my coffee (which seemed like an awesome idea when it was 18 degrees outside). I ate corn chips and dip. I went to a Brazilian steakhouse for a three-hour meal. I actually enjoyed myself into tighter fitting pants. I know myself and know that I need a hard break from sugar and snacking. Because I generally have a very healthy diet, I may feel that my sugar dragon has been slayed in two weeks. Maybe it will take 3 weeks. Who knows; I may find myself at the six week mark again. Time will tell. Cravings will tell.
I have been putting together some very simple meals. Meat and veggies. Nothing tricky. Nothing time consuming. Today for lunch I made a quick stir fry using three ingredients: Andouille sausage, carrot and yellow potato. On the side I put sauerkraut. It filled an entire 9-inch plate and my stomach.
